Ever wonder what happens during an Acupressure Session?

Take a peek behind the scenes to find out what to expect during an acupressure session.

First, we connect through conversation and check-in on what has been going on for you in life. Whatever you feel comfortable sharing. The celebrations, the challenges, and anything that might be related to what is causing the physical or emotional issues you are experiencing. Issues could look like: trouble sleeping, trouble concentrating, irritability, zero patience, sadness, anger, resentment, or even no feeling at all – a numbness. It could also look like: headaches, backaches, digestion issues, sciatica, neck & shoulder pain. It could be something that just happened, or you could have been dealing with it for a looooong time.

Through the conversation, we create a session that will address all the issues that have been brought forward. Stress affects us in so many ways – physically, emotionally, and mentally. In the world we live in, it is common and in fact expected to look at each symptom separately, and treat them separately. That is just the way it has been for the majority of us, me included.

And…. in your session, we do it differently. We look at the BIG picture of what is happening. Oftentimes, what seems totally unrelated, can actually be the magic key. We look to see if there are any connections between back pain and financial worries; neck tension/headaches and feeling stuck in work, relationships, and life. We look to see if the constant pushing, never stopping, never taking a breath in life is affecting your body, mind, or emotions. There is no judgment. There is no diagnosing. There is connection, curiosity, and an openness to see what might be possible for you.

That gentle self-inquiry is before you even get on the table…

From the conversation, we select a “protocol/recipe” that addresses the primary concern for you. I have lots of different ones to choose from depending upon what is going on for you.

Once you get on the table you have a few choices.

  • Silently experience the session with calming music playing in the background. You stay gently aware of your thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations and totally relax.

  • Fully let go and fall hard asleep (I don’t hear snoring….so if you ask if you did, I will have no idea)

  • Verbally process what is going on in the body and how it relates to the issues brought forward. It’s where you get out of your head and your body brings forward messages, answers, questions for you to look at, feel, and become aware of. It’s pretty cool.

  • And any of the above in combination…… there is no wrong way or right way for you to experience a session

The most important part of the session is that you feel safe, comfortable, and 100% heard and acknowledged – by both yourself and me.

When you are on the table, you will lay on your back face up, fully clothed. The table can be heated, you can have a blanket. You can have a warm towel with aromatherapy under your neck. You can have a warm towel foot wrap to help ease into relaxation. Or, you don’t have to have any of those things. It’s all your choice.

I will then hold different pressure points on your body (using my fingertips) in a series of combinations based upon the “protocol/recipe” that we determine would be best for that day. The points will be both on top of and under your body and I will move you as needed; you just get to relax. The pressure is gentle yet firm, and it shouldn’t hurt. The pressure points might be tender, but there shouldn’t be pain. If it hurts – you say so….and we adjust. Again, you are in charge.

A 60-minute session might look like this:

  • 20 min conversation / 40 min table work

  • 30 min conversation / 30 min table work

  • 10 min conversation / 50 min table work

It is through conversation and gentle pressure point touch that we bring you to a place of ease, relaxation, and healing.

Clients often ask – How many times do I need to come to get rid of their issue?

  • The answer varies and is unique for each person.

    • If you have a ‘chronic something’ and it’s been going on for a while – weeks, months, years – it won’t disappear in one session. It will take time and we create the plan together. You are going to know best what is right for you, as you are part of this process.

    • If you have an ‘acute something’… headache/neck pain/sore shoulder or back… it might take a few sessions close together to help loosen and ease it. Some release quicker than others.

    • Once we get you to where you want to be - preventive and maintenance sessions are so important. Clients that have the best results come in monthly after they are feeling good. Then, when issues arise, they add on another.

“I love my sessions with Emily! She’s a great listener and our sessions focus on my current needs. I’m so glad I tried Acupressure and Reiki. I find both to be amazing at helping me to relax. I look forward to seeing Emily every few weeks and would highly recommend her!”

Sarah

"When I first started acupressure (around 6 years ago) I was in a dark place. My life was going well; my job was good and my kids were great! I just couldn’t snap out of it, no matter what antidepressants I tried.

So Emily and I started on my journey to find ME. Her acupressure therapy (combined with her constructive listening to my ranting and raving) has helped me dig deep and get rid of my negative thoughts and reroute my energy. These therapies have been so imperative to my mental and physical health! Not only did I become uncontrollably more positive, but my sinus, stomach, and hip issues all also went away.

I cannot say enough good things about Emily and her practice!! She is one of my favorite people in the Universe and I would not be who I am today without her help!!!"

Brenda

“I have been a client of Emily for over a year. I look forward to every appointment!

She has helped me through emotional turmoil, physical ailments, and has celebrated my successes as well. She takes the time to get to know me and the reasons why I'm there on that day.

Every session is highly personal and tailored to my needs. I wholeheartedly recommend Emily to anyone looking for reiki or acupressure. She is a wonderful, caring practitioner and you'll leave your session in a better place than when you came in.”

Sarah

“I really can’t say enough good things about Emily and what Acupressure and Reiki has done for me. It is extremely helpful physically and mentally. Very Relaxing! I bought the 6-month package so I would keep going and hold myself accountable. It is MORE than worth every single penny.”

Laura

“I had my first session with Emily last night. It was amazing! I experienced awaking, self-awareness, opening and releasing. I walked away feeling light and unburdened. My muscles, which are usually stiff, were flexible and pliant. I am definitely going to continue working with her and highly recommend her to anyone interested in energy work.”
